To COMMISSION a Portrait or Mural e-mail to Caswell@JTSwanGalleries.com
For a Portrait, the artist will travel to your home, if possible, or you may visit her studio.
When working with children, Caswell likes to have an hour or two with the subject, getting acquainted and taking a lot of photographs. She will usually work from these, and from her memory of the personality of the subject. Very few children, or adults are able to pose for any length of time without "glazing over". The expression which is typical of the subject, and constitutes the "likeness", is often fleeting and fragile, and during a sitting is apt to disappear altogether. Accordingly Caswell prefers using her camera instead of preliminary sketches or sittings.
The usual portrait is $1800, with 1/3 to be paid at the first sitting and the remainder when the finished work is delivered. The painting will be done in oils on canvas which is stretched around the the stretcher bars so that no frame is required. If a frame is desired, the cost will depend on the moulding chosen.
For a Mural, the artist will travel to the site to make measurements and discuss the subject matter and colors. The Mural can be done in oils or acrylics, on canvas, panels of wood, or masonite in the artist's studio, then installed on your walls.
Prices will depend on size and difficulty of subject, but will in most cases, be about $200 per square foot.
